Cellphones and Brain Cancer

January 12th 2007 19:19
A recent study published in the "Journal of the National Cancer Institute" indicates that there is no link between cellphone use and brain cancer. Schüz, et al., followed over 400,000 people who began using cellphones between 1982 and 1995 and found no increased risk of tumors.

I do wonder though about our sense of hearing after using mobile phones so close to our ears.

Good point. Sense of hearing is something we wouldn't notice slowly diminishing over time.

Hi Adele,

I know it all reads well, but something within me doesn't buy this one.

I don't believe it.

...waiting to see what future studies reveal?

However, having said that, it is possible that cell phones copped the blame for Aspartame and these Phenelkenalite sweeteners, found in everything these days, which are known carcinogens.

Makes me wonder who's in who's back pocket?

I wonder about these studies...The findings always seem to change from year to year and end up making me more confused...or maybe I'm just too dumb?

Atleast, I'm glad that if I do get brain cancer it's not because I've been gabbing for too long on my cellphone

Thanks,
Manjula

There's a lot of conflicting studies on this topic... the idea is certainly objectionable, when you think about how much power the cellphone is emitting...

I think that's true. As Lilla pointed out, somebody is paying for these studies and that probably affects what data is included.

The original studies that I remember were of people who talked on the phone a lot. So much that I remember wondering how they had time to do anything else.
